A quick word from the Pastors wife

“O ye of little faith”

It has been nearly 3 months since I have wrote on this blog, and that has been on purpose. My last post was about wanting to get back into giving God more of my time. I even was having a difficult time figuring out a reading pattern. I foolishly had written, “I just want God to open my bible and point to where He wants me to read but I know that is not how it happens.” Now, I used to believe that God did that, because God is God and nothing is impossible to him.. Then I stumbled on a sermon probably 8 years ago about Gods will for my life. That sermon both hurt and helped. It helped me to realize that nothing I do can thwart God’s plan, for He is mightier than I and more powerful.. who am I to be able to mess God up? I can indeed make mistakes, do what God ask me not to do, but at the end of the day God’s Will, will always prevail. This is proven in the Old Testament time and time again. However, that mans sermon did alter my belief in how God works and that did me a great disservice. I was actually convinced that God does not work in instances like I had mentioned above with my Bible reading. As I look back on this now, I realize that the preacher man was actually saying that, if I flipped open my Bible and it was actually something that was pertaining to my life than that was just by happenstance, not God, that God worked bigger than that and never on such a trivial level. That was foolish of that man to preach and foolish of me to not further question that and just take that belief as my own.

After I had posted my last entry, I had a sister approach me and ask if we could speak alone. She began to talk with me and help me to realize I was in a “ye of little faith” mindset with God. That I need not to diminish God or his abilities. That conversation was a breath of fresh air and I am going to take this moment to veer off my point of this blog to say how important it is for us to be able to do what this sister had done for me. I walked away from that conversation feeling loved and cared for because she cared enough about me to help me see God in a bigger light. The New testament has plenty of scripture about seeing a brother (or sister) who has fallen, or needs direction and us being the ones willing to help. This will not always be a smooth situation, but in the end it was for their (or your!) spiritual benefit and it is our duty as a sister to help.

As I left church that morning after speaking with my sister, I drove slow and pondered everything we had spoke about. I told Dustin about our conversation and as we pulled into the drive and I put the car in park, I was emotional, not because of hurt but because that conversation had spoke to my heart and even convicted me. I grabbed my Bible and I turned to Dus and I said, “If that is truly how God can and does work than I should be able to open this Bible right now and it be what I need!” Tears streaming down my face. I felt partially frustrated at myself for not believing God would do that and partially scared that I would prove my former belief correct, that He just wouldn’t do that. I opened that Bible and read,

keep in mind that before this, I had not had this passage underlined or marked. I had not skimmed the page for something good or that I thought would work in my current situation, instead that is exactly where my eyes went. “God will do a marvellous work.” I have no doubts in my heart that God lead me here. This scripture (Isaiah 29:13-16) spoke right to me, I needed this. God came to his daughter who was hurting and just needed truth and revelation from her Father in heaven. He used a sister of mine to show me our Fathers goodness. What a moment this was.

Since that moment I quit worrying so much about trying to find the right passage to read or study on and I just let God guide that way for me. It is not always just opening my Bible and it being the first thing I read, it’s about God guiding me, my heart. Letting go of my expectations and letting God just take full control even in my reading/studies has took a lot off of me and I just get to live in the goodness of God.

“I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. Blessed is the man who maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as to turn aside to lies. Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered. Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.

Psalm 40

Love y’all,

Elizabeth Grace.
